The Quirky Shed Hilton

Highlight • Cafe

Good quality cafe with a menu different to most. The food has a Turkish bent. Sitting available in a shed and outside in the garden. Very friendly staff and owner. Was previously Suzie's Shed.

Historic Sites of Mayfield Villages

Highlight • Historical Site

A collection of villages (Middle Mayfield, Church Mayfield and Upper Mayfield) with lots of historic houses. There are various information points where you can collect a free leaflet with details of the 50 or so sites to visit. Include a house from 1440, a church with bullet holes from Bonnie Prince Charlie's troops and a mill with connected workers mill cottages.
Note that the pub doesn't open every day so check times.

Sudbury Courtyard is a small friendly and interesting collection of shops and a really nice café. Lots of outdoor seating and the whole place is bike friendly.
The National Trust managed Sudbury Hall is just up the road and well worth a visit.
Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 - 16:00.

Tutbury Castle

Highlight • Historical Site

Impressive ruined castle. Privately owned but open for visitors (need to buy a ticket). Hard to get a good view from outside the grounds as surrounded by high walls, fences and gates.
Scenic church next to the castle with a number of picnic benches.
Mary Queen of Scots was held here at one time (but then she seems to have been imprisoned in nearly every old house in the country!).
