October 4, 2022,Old chain of craters road

This former road was converted to a hiking path after the September 2021 Eruption. This is currently the best trail to see the current eruption. Daylight viewing is fairly boring but after dark the lava shines bright and clear. The parking is limited and get very crowded after sunset.

May 15, 2025,Keanakako‘i Overlook

Today we went to the crater rim to see the volcano, which is currently spewing lava. Since it was spewing fire yesterday, we went there today. Unfortunately, we only saw massive plumes of smoke but no lava☹️👎
But we did go through a lava tube and reached the STILL southernmost point of the USA. Who knows if Panama will soon …
