According to legend, at the foot of the Jochenstein, on a rock rising high from the Danube waters, stands a magnificent fairytale castle, ruled by the mermaid Isa (a sister of the Loreley). On bright moonlit nights, she repeatedly appears and reveals herself to fishermen and sailors. When thick fog poses a danger during river travel, she appears to sailors as a warning. Anyone who follows her lure and her song, however, will fall under her spell and must remain in her rocky castle for eternity.
