City park entrance gate

Highlight • Monument

The second entrance, dating from 1879, is located on Abdijstraat and is conceived as a triumphal arch of brick masonry using bluestone for the capstones, corner and keystones and Classicist with an open motif in the cornice. The low square corner pillars no longer connect to fencing, but to a wire fence. The high round arch gate is closed by a wrought iron gate with simple bars ending in stylized lilies and rings between the doubled lower and upper rails. Gate and corner pillars are connected by a low wall and a fixed fence of the same model as the gate.

Groenmarkt

Highlight • Monument

The renovated Groenmarkt opened in September 2020. The contours of the Clerk's Chapel, discovered during the excavations in preparation for the works, light up colorfully between the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady. The fountains adorn the Groenmarkt and make the city center a pleasant place to take a breather.

Town Hall & Belfry

Highlight • Historical Site

One of the three towers that you can see from the Grote Markt is the 18th-century town hall. It is built around the medieval hall and hall tower or belfry. The Belfry Tower houses a restored carillon with 50 bells and is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The symbol of urban freedom, a wrought-iron double-headed eagle, is the work of Pierre Radoux and it adorns the 14th-century platform. The renovated town hall, the eye-catcher in the middle of the market, is definitely worth a visit.
The Sint-Truiden Tourist Office is located in the historic town hall and there is also a regional products shop.

Abbey Tower

Highlight • Historical Site

The highlight of the abbey site is the sober abbey tower, the historic landmark of the city. The thousand-year-old ruined tower of the former Benedictine abbey was completely renovated after a serious fire. 196 stairs and five rest and experience platforms lead you to a breathtaking panorama of the city and the region.

Zorgmonument Sint-Anna Hospital

Highlight • Historical Site

This beautifully preserved facade is a 'Care Monument' and a silent witness to 'Care Moments'

History: The Grauwzustersklooster at the Vissegat was the centre of healthcare in Sint-Truiden before 1800. Because it was connected to the Capuchin monastery, it was integrated into the civil hospital during the French Revolution.

Cicindria Stream

Highlight • River

If you really want to enjoy the Cicindria, which is more than a babbling brook but is at the source of Sint-Truiden itself, you can do a walk of 5.7 and one of 2.9 kilometers "Walk in the Cicindria valley along Roman roads". It is also a perfect connection between Sint-Truiden and Brustem. Full information in the PDF file at visitsinttruiden.be/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/ST-Cicindriawandeling.pdf

There they say about the Cicindriabeek: "The Cicindria rises in Jeuken and flows into the Melsterbeek after 12 km. Sint-Truiden originated on the fertile banks of the Cicindriabeek. Trudo, the founder of the city, came from an estate in Straeten. This hamlet was located at an important crossroads of Roman roads. A Benedictine monastery stood in this valley (Val St-Trudon) until the 13th century. In 1986, important archaeological finds were excavated along the Roman road, which can now be admired in the town hall on the Grote Markt".

Speelhof Park

Highlight • Parking

In the 16th century, the Speelhof along the beguinage was set up as a 'playhouse' for the abbey. You can walk there, there is a beautiful rose garden and beautifully maintained, furnished allotments. The cycle route network passes by and from the terrace of brasserie 'De Afspanning' you can keep an eye on the little ones in the playground. You can enjoy walking and cycling on the walking path surrounded by trees. Children can also visit the animal park. You will also come across some art projects on the domain.
