Kruis van Blommerschot

Highlight • Monument

The forest cross, which lies against the border of Oostmalle and Zoersel, was built on a six-way junction in 1931 long before the construction of the E34. There is a funny anecdote attached to it. Around 1930, the naturist association De Spar opened a nudist area fifty meters away. In a self-built 'nudarium' they practiced nude swimming and nude gymnastics.
The local residents spoke of the 'exposure holes' and told about the many untold things that happened there. Legend has it that a poacher encountered eight naked women during his nighttime trek through the forest. He fell asleep at a crossroads of lanes and woke up the next day with no trace of his nighttime adventure. The pastor was so impressed by the poacher's story that he had the cross of Blommerschot erected there to chase the 'witches' away.

Dead Trees of Domein Blommerschot

Highlight • Natural Monument

Domein Blommerschot and the Beulkbeemden together form a beautiful nature reserve with a mix of forests, grasslands and wet meadows. In Blommerschot you will find extensive deciduous forests with winding paths that lead you through dense vegetation and quiet open spaces. The Beulkbeemden are wet grasslands full of rare plants and colorful flowers, which come to life in spring and summer with birdsong and insects.

Valley of the Delfte Brook

Highlight • Forest

The Delfte Beek originates in the area of the Kempen clay. For thousands of years, clay particles were deposited on the valley floor during floods. As a result, the soil is richer than elsewhere in the area. This is expressed in the spring by a lush growth of herbs.

The Delfte Beek forms the 'backbone' of the area. Several typical meanders can be found in the nature reserve. The footpath follows the stream in two places, and it also runs partly through deciduous and coniferous forest.

The original relief of the stream valley has been preserved in most places. Outside the area, this has disappeared due to intensive agriculture. The part of the stream that is located in the nature reserve is not cleared mechanically. The stream can therefore develop freely. Fallen trees in the stream also provide additional dynamics.
