Wenzelskirche and War Memorial

Wenceslas Church was first mentioned in a document in 1208. It can be assumed that the place where the Wenceslas Church stands today served as a cultural site for the first pagan settlers.
After Christianization, a wooden chapel was built there and the later brick chapel was probably consecrated to St. Wenceslaus by Slavic settlers in the 10th century.
The Wenceslas Church, the Dionysius Chapel and the nave of the parish church were probably designed by the same master. The late Gothic nave in St. Wenzel's Church has a ribbed vault and dates from the beginning of the 16th century.
In 1964, after renovation work had been carried out, the Wenceslas Church was handed over to the Freistadt district as a war memorial.
