In 1927, the Sint-Trudo Church was built under the supervision of architect Jan Stuyt. The old church was demolished a year later, the demolition of the old tower only followed in 1937. In that last year, collections were made for the erection of a Sacred Heart statue. Because the Second World War threw a spanner in the works and a first design was rejected by the bishop, it was not until 1948 that Steph Uiterwaal was commissioned to make a monument.[1] The statue was completed in September 1949 and placed next to the current Trudokerk, approximately at the height of the location of the old tower.

Saint Trudo Church, Zundert

Highlight • Religious Site

The Trudo Church in Zundert is a three-aisled Roman Catholic Church built in 1927 according to a design by architect J. Stuyt. The building has architectural-historical importance due to the neo-Romanesque style and the detailing, in which the architect wanted to do away with the traditional neo-styles, but it is particularly art-historical important due to the older interior parts present, including a number of paintings and sculptures by Peter Paul Rubens and his studio. These works of art originally come from St. Michael's Abbey in Antwerp. This concerns a high altar from 1623 with the statues of the Mother of God and Child, the Archangel Michael and Saint Norbert, two side altars with paintings from the seventeenth century and confessionals.
