The Inn of Loon

Highlight • Cafe

Cozy break spot with a sunny terrace at the intersection in Loon. On the edge of the beautiful surroundings around the Balloërveld and the Drentse Hondsrug near Assen. Wide range of fresh pastries, a wonderful place to rest. Hunger knock tip: A Drents Bultje :-)

Cycle Path through the Balloërveld

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Truly one of the most beautiful cycle paths. Especially look at the east side (the Balloërveld) in August when the heather is in bloom.

Balloërveld Heath

Highlight • Natural

The Balloërveld is located in the middle of the Drentsche Aa National Park. This is one of the largest and most beautiful moors in the province of Drenthe. Would Drenthe have looked like this hundreds of years ago?

Balloërveld Gravel Track

Highlight • Trail

Beautiful piece of nature, especially when the heather is in bloom (August). Great for cycling with a racing bike (have 25 mm tires). The path is narrow, so when it is busy due to tourism and therefore oncoming traffic it may be possible to pass the verge.
