Parish Church of St. John the Baptist (Ampass)

It was first mentioned in a document in 1145. Shortly before, the seat of the original Ampass parish was moved from the Ambras castle chapel to Ampass. The parish has been incorporated into Wilten Abbey since 1256. A church was consecrated in 1426, but it burned down in 1567. The new building was inaugurated in 1574. After an earthquake in 1670, repairs were carried out until 1689. In 1744 the church was given a Baroque style, especially inside. In 1929 Raphael Thaler renovated the church, and further restoration took place in 1955/56. An interior restoration in 1985 was used to gain insight into the building history of the church through an archaeological excavation.
