Whitwick Station

Whitwick Station was built for the Charnwood Forest Railway, and was officially opened on 16 April 1883. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1931, and the station building became a blacksmiths. The line was closed completely in 1963, and the waiting rooms and other facilities on platform level were demolished.
In the mid-1970s the Whitwick Historical Group was created, with the old station building becoming their home.

Peter Elderfield Memorial Wood

This 27-acre wood in Whitwick, Leicestershire, UK was first planted in 2000 and is dedicated to the founder of World Habitat. Peter Elderfield set up East Midlands Housing Association in 1946 after returning from the Second World War, and the Building and Social Housing Foundation in 1976 – which went on to become World Habitat in 2017.
