Founded as a Cistercian abbey by Maulbronn monks in the picturesque Jagst valley in 1157, the monastery has developed into a powerful and flourishing monastery complex over the centuries. The monastery owes its imposing baroque appearance above all to Abbot Benedikt Knittel (1650-1732).
