On the left bank of the Rhine, above the village of Rheindiebach, the Fürstenberg castle ruins rise. The ruin can be explored and is located on the famous Rhein-Burgen-Weg. A detour is worthwhile.

Raven Chair of Poetry

Highlight • Monument

On the banks of the Rhine in Bacharach is one of four book chairs by the artist Liesel Metten, which goes back to a project with students from the Liesel Metten School in Nieder-Olm.
According to the artist Liesel Metten, every book should be preserved - if this is not possible in a library, then at least as a community-building art project. This was the idea behind a unique art project with students, which ultimately resulted in this book chair.
Four hundred discarded books from waste paper bins were plastered and painted by the 130 students of the Liesel Metten School in Nieder-Olm. The book chair was selected from the various ideas for using the preserved books and realized as a bronze cast.
A total of four casts of the chair are each dedicated to a different book theme: in the place where it was created, Nieder-Olm, it is dedicated to the poet Wilhelm Holzamer; in Bacharach, it will represent the Romantic poets' engagement with the Middle Rhine Valley as the “raven chair of poetry”. In downtown Mainz, a Gutenberg chair addresses the city's connection to its most famous son. Finally, the fourth chair is on the campus of the University of Mainz and is dedicated to “The Unread Book”.
