Alpirsbach Abbey

Highlight • Religious Site

It won't be long before Alpirsbach Monastery is a thousand years old - it was in 1095 when it was first consecrated. You can find out whether the brewing tradition in Alpirsbach has lasted just as long in the brewery next door. What is certain, however, is that the monastery and brewing tradition are closely linked in Alpirsbach. And you can't fault the quality either - the monks knew how to brew a good beer. By the way: Beer used to be popular with the monks, especially during Lent, because it was said that "Liquids don't break the fast". Fortunately, the beer contained less alcohol then than it does today, because according to tradition, some monks satisfied their hunger with up to five liters of beer a day.

You can find more information about Alpirsbach Monastery, opening times and prices here: kloster-alpirsbach.de/besuchsinformation/oeffnungszeiten.

Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu Brewery

Highlight • Structure

For more than 900 years beer has been brewed in the Alpirsbach Abbey. Every day at 2.30 pm friends of the spicy barley juice can take part in the brewery tour and afterwards enjoy a glass of Klosterbräu and a vesper. As a conclusion worth a stroll through the brewing shop. Here you can buy the different types of beer, Klosterbräu souvenirs and even a starter kit for hobby brewers.

All information can be found at alpirsbacher.de/de.html.

Alpirsbach Abbey (Kloster Alpirsbach)

Highlight • Religious Site

Very worthwhile monastery complex. The dimensions alone are evidence of the importance that the Alpirsbach monastery once had in the region. A visit to the brewery and the Löwenpost brewery inn is also recommended.

Leutkirche Tower, Alpirsbach

Highlight • Historical Site

Tower of a church from the 11th century - probably the former monastery church. The choir and nave were demolished in the 17th century - looks a bit like a city gate. Right next to it is the Museum of Urban History.

An important point for me as a local, we maintain cooperation and rivalry with our Baden neighbors and friends.
