Old Beet Fast Route (Salzgitter-Bad – Groß Mahner)

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This street (closed to public traffic) in east-west direction is almost an insider tip when it comes to or from SZ-Bad. You bypass the Windmühlenberg or the lousy bike path along the B248. The animal shelter of SZ-Bad and the local sewage treatment plant are located along the street, but you never smell 😁
In the past there was a loading station for the ores of the Ilseder Hütte from the Georg-Friedrich mine near Dörnten / Liebenburg, an allotment garden colony and the sugar factory Groß-Mahner, all of which can no longer be seen.

The asphalt has some quirks along the shelter!

Descent towards Werlaburgdorf

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Little traffic and an entertaining route with the curvy and somewhat wavy road course.

From Wolfenbüttel to Werlaburgdorf (via Heiningen, Dorstadt and Ohrum), this cycle path along the busy L615 offers the opportunity to avoid traffic.

Bungenstedter Tower Windmill

Highlight • Monument

Hello, don't just snap a quick photo from the road. The path to the mill is about 500 meters from the road and is definitely worth the effort! The mill was built in 1880 and was in operation until 1965.

Little Palace Wolfenbüttel

Highlight • Castle

The visit of the museum inside is worthwhile in any case. Representational rooms with sumptuous furnishings and objects of the stately everyday life.

Two arms of the Oker enclose the historic city center of Dammfeste and Heinrichstadt. A ditch branches off from the southern arm at the school wall, which branches off at the main lock to the castle and in the opposite direction to the commissary, where it crosses the city center in a north direction as a large canal. These are the remains of a more extensive historical canal system from the 16th century, which was designed by Hans Vredeman de Vries during the expansion of Heinrichstadt. One of Wolfenbüttel's most famous attractions can be seen on the Grand Canal, the section called Little Venice, which is completely lined with houses. Here you can find panel 5 of the “Wolfenbüttel Waterways Culture Route”.

Lobmachtersen Water Tower

Highlight • Monument

The landmark of the place, visible from afar, is the water tower in the southeast on a small elevation. The first plans for the creation of a central water supply began in 1925. The water should be taken from the "Springquelle", which is near the later water tower at the intersection of the streets "Deiweg" and "Am Spring". The construction work for the aqueduct and the water tower began in spring 1928 and was completed in November 1928. The tower is made of bricks and has a height of 29.50 meters (with roof and traffic light).
