It's worth stopping here if a smuggling takes place. It may not be anything special, but it's still great to see if you can stand right on top of the lock.

Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen

Highlight • Structure

On the occasion of the 1997 Federal Garden Show, a 100-hectare fallow area on the Nordstern colliery site was transformed into an impressive park landscape in just a few years. The extensive grounds along the Rhine-Herne Canal invite you to stroll, cycle, and run today. With children's and adventure playgrounds, an experience-oriented farm, a ship landing stage, gastronomy, and its amphitheater with an open-air stage, the park offers numerous leisure opportunities.

The heart of the former colliery site and its landmark is the Nordstern Tower with its monumental statue "Hercules of Gelsenkirchen" on the tower roof. The landmark has 18 floors and, with its visitor terrace at an altitude of around 83 meters, offers an unobstructed view into the expanses of the park, the city, and the Ruhr Metropolis.

The industrial site of the Nordstern colliery was completely redesigned for the Federal Garden Show. A beautiful local recreation area has been created here with a huge children's playground, barbecue area, beer garden, dog meadow and amphitheater. The old colliery building was converted into an office building. A detour is definitely worth it 👍
