Finalborgo

Highlight • Settlement

Finalborgo is a medieval village which forms the municipality of Finale Ligure together with Finale Marina and Finale Pia. It was founded around the year 1000 and lived its greatest splendor during the Middle Ages, when it was the capital of the Marquisate of Finale. Within its perfectly preserved old walls, you can feel the sparkling energy of a true outdoor capital. In the evening, its alleys are filled with bikers and climbers who drink an aperitivo or buy some technical gear in its numerous mountain shops. In 2004 Finalborgo entered the ranking of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Porta Testa and Porta Testa Square

Highlight • Historical Site

Finalborgo is surrounded by a wall built around 1447 by Giovanni I del Carretto and from these walls there are four access gates to the village: one of these is Porta Testa on the western side which bears the construction date of 10 June 1452. In the 19th century the gate was modified and, in addition to the inscriptions in Gothic characters and the coat of arms of Giovanni I del Carretto, which already existed, it was raised, adding a bell tower with a clock and a fresco of the Madonna.
