Katyń Memorial in Tarnogród

On September 28, 1939, a reserve unit of the 14th Infantry Division of the Poznań Army was disarmed here by the Bolshevik Russian army, with the help of local Jews. Approximately 40 officers and cadets were taken prisoner and murdered by the Soviet NKVD in Katyn in April and May 1940.

Among the thousand names on the "Katyn list" are those directly linked to Tarnogród, including Major Kazimierz Kraczkiewicz – one of the pioneers of Polish balloon aviation – as well as Second Lieutenant Edmund Seroka, Lieutenant Arkadiusz Koźmiński, and Senior Constable Feliks Radomski.
