View of Isola di San Paolo

slightly raised panoramic point where you can enjoy the view of the southern part of the lake and of San Paolo Island which becomes pure magic at sunset.

history of the island:
The island of San Paolo (in Lombardy Isola de San Pàol) is a small island that rises in Lake Iseo, together with the island of Loreto and south of the much larger Monte Isola. It is privately owned.
In 1091 the islet, which was under the control of the noble Mozzi family, was donated to the Cluniac monastery of San Paolo d'Argon, which established a priory there.
The monastery later passed to the noble Fenaroli family of Pilzone, who subsequently handed it over to the minor friars who built a monastery perhaps around the year 1490. The observant Alessandro Fenaroli, who died on 15 August 1525, is buried in the church of San Paolo sull 'island. A document from 1685 written by Father Fulgenzio Rinaldi mentions: This site is very healthy... delightful, the comfortable, large and well-laid out convent which can compete in beauty with many in this province... It contains vegetable gardens and gardens sufficient for the enjoyment of every vegetable and to the recreation of flowers... various fruit plants; of lemons and oranges is precisely the site.
The Fenaroli family maintained patronage of the convent (having their coat of arms painted in the cloister) maintaining the benefit until its suppression in January 1783. In that year the 14 friars were transferred to the convent of San Francesco in Iseo and the island sold to private individuals .
According to some, it seems that the islet, towards the end of the 19th century, was reachable at certain times of the year on foot from Sensole on Monte Isola.
In 1916 the island was purchased by the Beretta family, owners of the arms manufacturing industry of the same name, and subsequently renovated by the architect Egidio Dabbeni.

View of Monte Isola

Highlight • Viewpoint

Lake Iseo is characterized by the presence of Monte Isola within it: the lake island of the highest altitude and largest in Italy. Along with it are the islands of Loreto and San Paolo, much smaller in size.

We talked about it here: outdoortest.it/i-quattro-maggiori-laghi-lombardi-in-bicicletta

View of Monte Isola

Highlight • Viewpoint

This island in the middle of Lake Iseo is Europe's largest inland lake island. A detour is certainly worthwhile, but according to the notice at the shipping company's pier, crossing by bicycle is not permitted from March to September.

Car-free Monte Isola belongs to pedestrians and cyclists. The last hairpin bends on Monte Isola were narrow and very steep! Magnificent view in all directions.

A dream tour, especially when the visibility is clear. The crossing of the Inselberg in particular opens up great views. But be careful! The climb to the summit in particular, but also the downward sections, require excellent control of the bike.

Easy and promising tour before the midday heat.

Showing Translation

It was a nice tour, unfortunately with a sliding section, so next time we will take a different route from CURE.
