Moby Dick Chalk Mound MTB Descent

Highlight • Viewpoint

Friston Forest MTB Trails - Chalk Mound
Fun descent from the top of this mound, not so easy to get to the top but worth it!
Exact location and more details- Source sxmtbmaps
"This a large horse shoe shaped chalk mound found at the end of the Fairy Trail just before you cross Cardiac . Climb up onto Moby Dick from the north and follow one of the ridges to the apex and highest point. From here you can drop down to Cardiac, go straight across to pick up 'Rattle and Hum' and continue to the 'Candy Canes', or stop for a breather while the others catchup, or better still nip back around and have another go."

Birling Gap and Chalk Cliffs

Highlight • Beach

Birling Gap has been made famous for its coastal chalk cliff recession – the coastguard cottages have been gradually falling into the sea for decades. The pebble beach is currently accessible via scaffolding and steps but the area is known for its rockfalls so caution is advised.

South Downs Way Crossroads

Highlight • Viewpoint

This feels like a big moment in the SDW, you’re almost there!!! Keep going! Ice creams are waiting for you at the bottom the last descent!

There’s a lot of walkers so respect (both ways) is required. And there’s a couple of very awkward angled ruts at the bottom plus a raised ledge so kill the speed or be set to bunny hop.

Take a break at this location before the next trail ride into friston/crater run or take the fast descent towards Jevington.

Friston Forest MTB trails

Highlight • MTB Park

Friston Forest MTB trails
Lots of fun to be had here, including family bike routes, but even better is the mtb trails. There is loads of routes, to many to detail here, best to explore. I find this site good for planning routes:
sxmtbstmaps.co.uk/index.html

Parking can be found either side of the forest, east side - seven sisters country park or further north at the forestry commission car park on the Litlington road. Or west at butchershole car park.
