The Langstone Standing Stone

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Langstone stands high at nearly 3m tall and although once removed from its positioned here on Langstone Moor, it was replaced in its original location in 1893.

If you look closely at the stone you'll notice some circular holes, wounds from when it was used for target practice by American soldiers stationed here in the Second World War.

South Hessary Tor

Highlight • Viewpoint

The last peak before dropping down to Princetown if you're heading up from the south on Ivybridge Lane, South Hessary Tor has some fascinating history if you climb up a little closer. On the top of the granite rocks, you'll find a 'cobra', or weathered iron spike. This is one of four across the moor that used to mark boundaries.

Nun's Cross (Siward's Cross)

Highlight • Monument

A granite wayside Cross first mentioned as far back as 1240 was used on The Monks’ Path and the Abbots’ Way, both of which link Buckfast Abbey to Tavistock Abbey and Buckland Abbey. It was knocked down in 1846 and the shaft broken. It was restored in 1848.

Eylesbarrow Tin Mine Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Historical Site

A gloriously fast and fun trail heading from Gutter Tor, past Drizzle Combe (such cheerful names!) up to Eylesbarrow's disused tin mine. This is open moorland, so it goes without saying (but I'm going to say it anyhow) that it's pretty unpleasant in the wet!

The Royal Oak Inn, Dartmoor

Highlight • Historical Site

The Royal Oak is a traditional village pub in the picturesque surroundings of Dartmoor National Park. The pub, which is Grade II-listed, is a former 15th-century church house inn and takes its name from the 800-year-old oak tree on the village green. With a flagstone floor, oak beams, and a large fireplace, you really step back in time here. The pub has a good selection of food and drink. For more information, visit: royaloakinn.org.uk.
