Prestatyn Golf Course

Highlight • Structure

Founded in 1905, Prestatyn Golf Club had an 18-hole course in play the following year. Nine of the original fairways were lost to development in 1921 but another nine were in play within twelve months, enabling members to resume with a full complement of holes.
It's a wonderful place to cycle through but beware of flying golf balls

Dechrau a Diwed (Welsh for ‘beginning and end’) is a statue that marks the northern end of the Offa’s Dyke National Trail. Dubbed the ‘Polo Mint’ by locals, the design was inspired by King Offa and the trail, which finishes in Prestatyn. It was unveiled in 2013. Of course, if you have just completed the trail, the real finish line is a boot-less paddle in the sea.

North Wales Coast Path Promenade

Highlight • Viewpoint

A lovely stretch of traffic-free riding along the North Wales Coast. With waves crashing onto the beach on one side and colourful seafront promenades on the other, this is perfect riding. You'll find plenty of ice cream en route too.

Three neat metal sculptures recall three of Rhyl’s greats, the footballer Don Spendlove, the musician Mike Peters and the environmental scientist Sir John Houghton.

You can learn a lot on the boardwalks of Horton's Nose in Rhyl. The paths crisscrossing the dunes and the swaying marram grass are wonderful in themselves.

But sprinkled along the planks are noticeboards with just enough information about the history and natural world hereabouts to satisfy the curious. Does everyone know why this stretch of the Denbighshire coast is named Horton's Nose/Trwyn Horton,

Access to and from the inner harbour is via the Pedestrian / Cycle Bridge, lifting of the bridge will be on demand, subject to wind strength and whenever the height of tide is such that the harbour and approaches are navigable.

The route begins in Berkshire at Reading before heading through the Chiltern Hills to Wallingford, Didcot, Abingdon and the famous university city of Oxford.

The next stage runs through Stafford before some canalside cycling through Stoke-on-Trent. Into Cheshire next to the historic city of Chester with its numerous ancient buildings and city walls.
Leaving England you head west into Wales, passing Bagillt, Flint and Prestatyn with some excellent coastal views particularly on the traffic free sections from Abergele to Llanfairfechan.
