Nigardsbreen Glacier Trail

Highlight • Trail

From here about 3 km to the glacier. Varied path over rocks, watercourses, ladders, partially secured.
You should be sure-footed, sturdy shoes with non-slip soles are also recommended here.
Also suitable for children from about 5 years.
Take a jacket and possibly a hat with you even in warm temperatures, the last 500m to the glacier are cold and windy!

The bridge is like a temperature limit: after the bridge it gets much colder and windy. A jacket and possibly a hat are also useful here in summer!

The outflow of the melted glacier ice is also impressive, because the massive water masses have carved deep channels and potholes into the rock.

It gets cold behind the bridge. A jacket would be an advantage.

To ensure that you follow the "right" path, the small towers with the light blue or glacier blue roof are set up.

There's a shuttle boat service on the lake, which halves the time needed to reach the lower end of the glacier tongue.

Norway has 2534 glaciers, which together cover an area of 3300 km². At 487 km², the Jostedalsbreen is the largest glacier in the country, and even in the entire European mainland. Until our trip to Norway, I knew nothing about these enormous glaciers. An incredibly beautiful glacier tongue awaits us today and we are looking forward to the glacier, which …

Our goal today was the Nigardsbreen glacier

The Nigardsbreen is a glacier tongue of the Jostedalsbreen, a Scandinavian mountain range 🏔️...

In the valley of the glacier is the lake Nigardsbrevatnet, over which you can go with a small boat 🚤 close to the glacier.

Absolute highlight and must if you are in the area 😍

Starting point: car park at Nigardsbreen - the access road is a toll road. You can also park at Breheimsenteret, but in our opinion you can save yourself the 3 km to the trail. The museum itself is very interesting and a good place to start, as you can …

Today we went to the Nigardsbreen glacier: from the parking lot you can walk along a rocky hiking trail to just before the glacier, specified as 3 km (I don't know why komoot recorded less for me... but 3 km is closer, I think there were also a little more altitude).
Unfortunately, the route can be shortened by another 1.6 …

The hike takes you to the edge of the glacier tongue. Half of the way can be covered by boat (4€ per person and way). If you have trouble on slippery rocks, you should invest the money. The rest of the way is easily doable.
Here again the hint: the 38 Komoot minutes are more like 1.25 hours in

Descent from the glacier to the parking lot. It's just fantastic.

Super awesome tour. The crossing by boat was short but fun, and we had to walk back.

It was very cold and really wet from above. Of course it cleared up a bit and the rain started when we got back to the car.

Showing Translation

Very close to the glacier. Those who want to take a shortcut can book a boat transfer on site.
