The Font de Ceres is a fountain installed on Montjuïc Mountain, specifically in Sant Jordi Square, but not everyone knows its true history. The fountain has had two destinations before its current location, all in important places in Barcelona.
The beginning of its history began outside the current city, the first source was located in the old Vila de Gràcia, when it had not yet been annexed by Barcelona. Its location was on the old Camí de Jesús, which was later urbanized with the current name of Passeig de Gràcia, changing the old dirt road into a promenade that made it much more passable especially in winter .
In 1824 the Marquis of Campo Sagrado (Captain General of Catalonia), authorized the project to develop the path and which consisted of making a 42 meter wide promenade and strengthening the firm, a year after completion it was installed Gas lighting in the promenade. The promenade was officially opened in 1827, this was the starting point, for important men to try to set up their private homes, in single-family houses with gardens.
The transformation of the area made it necessary to decorate the promenade to give it a more sumptuous touch, so the authorities decided to install a fountain with a central sculpture at the intersection with Provence street, so they put in contact with the Iguala sculptor Celdoni Guixà i Alsina (who also made the plaque that adorned the balcony of the town hall with the title "Plaça de la Constitució" and which was removed in 2013). The fountain was inaugurated on July 28, 1830.

Climb of Passeig de Midgia

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

One of the hardest climbs on Montjuïc. Especially when combined with coming up from Carrer del Foc. But a pretty direct way to get to the Castell on top. Around 10% steep on average, with portions up to 16%.

The Monument to Columbus is a sculptural group located in the Portal de la Paz square in Barcelona, in the Ciutat Vella district. Built in homage to the discoverer Christopher Columbus, it is erected at the junction point between the Ramblas and the Paseo de Colón, in front of the old port of Barcelona. The author of the project was the architect Cayetano Buigas, and several artists took part in the sculptural decoration, such as Eduard B. Alentorn, Rafael Atché, Pere Carbonell, Manuel Fuxá, Josep Llimona, Rossend Nobas, Antoni Vilanova, Francisco Pagés and Agapito Vallmitjana. The foundry was by Alejandro Wohlguemuth.

The monument was built in the context of the works to improve the Barcelona coastline carried out on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888. Inaugurated on June 1, 1888, in full exhibition, it immediately became one of the most characteristic icons from the city. Inside the column there is an elevator that allows you to go up to the hemisphere located under the feet of the statue, from where you can see the city.

This work is registered as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest (BCIL) in the Catalan Cultural Heritage Inventory with code 08019/859.
