1885 Trail

Highlight • Trail

The name of the hiking trail goes back to the railway line of the ‘Canadian Pacific Railway’, which was built over the Rogers Pass in 1885. The trail follows the former railway route. The railway was exposed to a high risk of avalanches in winter and there were several accidents with many deaths. Therefore, the ‘Connaught Tunnel’ was built under ‘Mount MacDonald’ and completed in 1916.
