Jenny Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

A neo-Gothic brick observation tower built on an octagonal floor plan. Originally, the tower had three floors and was crowned with an observation terrace. Before 1945, the tower offered panoramic views of the city and the nearby Lower Silesian Forest. Its origins date back to the second half of the 19th century. The construction of the tower was initiated by Etienne Doussin, the owner of Folwark Próg (Drüssel) and the districts located several hundred meters south. The building was erected in the spring of 1873 and opened on June 22 of the same year. The founder's initials and the year "ED 1873" can still be seen above the entrance. Doussin named the tower "Jenny Tower" in honor of his wife. Interestingly, the builder also had a daughter of the same name, born in 1874. Jenny von Bary-Doussin was one of Bolesławiec's most prominent artists.

Bolesławiec

Highlight • Settlement

Bolesławiec is a small town in Lower Silesia. Here you can take a break in the picturesque old town, which is really worth seeing. If you want to make Bunzlau your stage destination, you will find accommodation and entertainment here. The city is known for its pottery from Bolesławiec, so a visit to the ceramics museum would be worthwhile. Bolesławiec has a train station so you can continue by public transport.

Piast Gate

Highlight • Monument

In the passage (gate) to the market square, there are a number of old, oversized historical seals attached to the walls. Very beautiful design, fits in wonderfully with the bourgeois houses.

Bolesławiec Market Square

Highlight • Settlement

The entire market square with its many shops and restaurants is worth a visit at any time of year.
The old bourgeois houses have been beautifully restored. The town hall is also a real eye-catcher.

The Maria-Hilf parish church, which is now Catholic, was originally Protestant. After the city purchased the ducal castle in 1620, this building was used by Protestant believers as a house of prayer. As part of the Habsburg Counter-Reformation, the parish church was given to the Catholics in 1640 and destroyed in 1642. It was only under Prussian rule (from 1742) that the community was able to be re-established. In 1752 the old castle was transferred to the Protestants, in whose place the construction of a Protestant church began using the remains of old walls. Completed in 1756, the large baroque hall church presented a very simple picture. Later, the 73 m high bell tower made of sandstone was added in the neo-Gothic style in 1834–1835, according to plans by Engelhard Gansel. The interior was modernized at the beginning of the 20th century according to plans by Hans Poelzig.[19] After the Second World War - and since the remaining German community members were expelled - the unused building fell into disrepair. In 1967 the building was finally renovated, removing a gallery and in 1970 it was converted into a Catholic parish church (kościół pw. Matki Boskiej Nieustającej Pomocy).
