The Kabacki Forest Air Crash occurred on May 9, 1987, when a passenger plane, the Il-62M "Tadeusz Kościuszko" of Polish Airlines LOT, crashed during an attempted emergency landing. The cause of the tragedy was an engine failure and a fire on board, which led to the loss of control of the plane. The crash killed 183 passengers and crew members, making it the largest in the history of Polish aviation.
