Pinhão Beach

Highlight • Beach

The marked spot is not on the beach, but up on the edge of the cliff. There used to be a staircase here that led down to the beach. However, like parts of the coast to the north and another stone staircase, this has since collapsed, so there is no longer a footpath along the top of the cliff from the town. The footpath mentioned below, over 300 metres from Praia Dona Ana to the south, no longer exists, or rather there is only a path that should no longer be used.
Instead, there is now a new elevated wooden path through the hilly landscape above the rocky coast and a new wooden staircase down to the beach at this point. Unfortunately, photos of this can only be found far back!

It is also possible (depending on the water level!) to get from the town (i.e. from the north) along the various beaches (Praia da Batata, Praia dos estudantes), through rock tunnels or around rocks (perhaps with a bit of wading through the water) down on the coast to Praia do Pinhão beach.

Dona Ana Beach

Highlight • Beach

Wonderful beach and in November we had one almost to ourselves. There is also a parking lot at the top right on the beach. But you can also hike along the coast. There are many other beautiful beaches nearby.

Ponta da Piedade Coastal Rock Formations

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Ponta da Piedade is an impressive rock formation on the coast near Lagos, in the Algarve, Portugal. The area is known for its jagged cliffs, crystal-clear sea, caves, and natural arches, carved by wind and water. Its beauty is best appreciated by boat, kayak, or from the clifftop trails, which offer spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Statue of Saint Gonçalo of Lagos

Highlight • Monument

São Gonçalo is said to have been born here in 1360. He is the patron saint of the fishermen of Lagos (incidentally, the only place in Portugal where São Pedro Telmo is not the patron saint of the fishermen, as is the case everywhere else). The saint died on October 15, 1422 in Torres Vedras.
According to tradition, São Gonçalo was born in a house next to the Portas do Mar city gate, where a niche with a statue commemorates the saint today. At the end of the 14th century, he joined the order of the Augustinian Hermits. As a man with many interests, he devoted himself primarily to catechism and preaching. He performed a number of miracles; one of the most famous is probably the "multiplication of tuna".
Since 1972, São Golçalo has been the patron saint of the city, which celebrates its city holiday in his honor on October 27. The house altar was built in the 1940s at the instigation of some Lagos personalities to preserve the memory of the saint. visitportugal.com
