Thallwitz Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle was built around 1580. The Baroque garden was added at the end of the 17th century. The main avenue leads to the castle and, via a staircase with a Baroque fountain cascade, to the elevated terrace, where a Baroque new building was originally planned but was not carried out due to costs. It was used, among other things, as a hunting lodge. From 1943, it was even used as a clinic for plastic surgery, which was closed in 1994.

The Lossa is a small river in Saxony and a tributary of the Mulde.

Course:
The Lossa rises east of the Wurzen district of Kühren. The Lossabach, a tributary to the Lossa, rises east of the town of Ochsensaal (to Dahlen). The Lossabach flows into the Lossa near the Lossa Valley district of Müglenz. The Lossa then flows north-west through Hohburg, south past the Hohburg Mountains, through the town of Lossa and through Thallwitz. Originally, the small river was bridged by the Halle-Eilenburg-Guben main line, flowed through Kültzschau and emptied into the Mulde in the north-west of Eilenburg-Ost. In 1924, due to the construction of the Wurzen–Eilenburg branch line, it was diverted about two kilometers south of the old estuary into the river. The 76 meter long railway bridge that had become superfluous was then demolished and its pillars were built over with a railway embankment. The Lossastraße in Eilenburg-Ost lies in the former course of the Lossa and is named after the river, to which it no longer has any spatial connection.
