View from Fröttmaninger Berg

Highlight • Viewpoint

Either to end a bike tour or for in between, the ascent to the wind turbine with a subsequent break to enjoy the all-round view is a must. Meeting point for mountain bikers, walkers and photographers (especially at sunset times). A few years ago you could still see the towering clouds of water vapor from the cooling tower of the Isar (Ohu) nuclear power plant east of Landshut in the northeast (as the crow flies about 65 kilometers away).

Several times the church was threatened with demolition. When the Munich Motorway Ring was built then ready-to-use citizens under the direction of the church caretaker of St. Albert, Ludwig Maile, achieved the displacement of the Munich-Nord interchange, the turnoff to Salzburg according to the original plans would have run exactly over cemetery and church. Since the demolition of the last farms for highway construction in 1969, Heilig Kreuz is free. Until 1971 the church was neglected and plundered and desecrated. Precious works of art and the two bells from the 15th century were lost. In 1984, plans were made concrete that wanted to expand the garbage mountain to the church wall. After civil protests, however, this plan was withdrawn. Later, the citizens' initiative for the third time for the church, this time for the consideration of the ecclesiastical monument in the development plan of the nearby Allianz Arena. The rescue route and its bridge had to be moved two hundred meters to the south.
The surreal-melancholic work of art "Sunken Village" at the foot of the Fröttmaninger Schuttberg thematizes the disappearance of the place as a kind of loss indication. The copy was set up so that the building seems to be half-buried by the mountain.

When I drove past I always wondered if I could go up there.

Since I was in the Motorworld first today and it's almost next door, I dared to climb it.

You can hardly hear the wind turbine, the sheep and the traffic were louder.

Of course I then passed the Munich Arena.
