The "Türmle"

This civic tower is the last of the original six guard towers and four gate towers of the medieval city fortification. It was added around 1400 in the existing since the 13th century eastern city wall section. The bricked tower was covered by a Halbkegeldach until the end of the 18th century, after which he received the existing timber-framed tower.

Currently, these rooms serve the Heidenheimer Kunstverein as exhibition spaces.

description
The center of the pedestrian zone is the well of the Knöpfleswäscherin before the Elmar-Doch-Haus. "Knöpfleswäscher", so the Heidenheimer are often called joking. The name stands for resourceful people who have "nothing misappropriated". Why this is so, tells an anecdote.

In the good old days, a local citizen wanted to bring her husband a basket full of knöpfle (a local specialty, similar to steamed noodles) to work. On the way she stumbled and the Knöpfle fell into the dust. The woman picked them up, washed them in the city stream and her husband consumed them with great appetite.

Heidenheim's old town hall was completed in 1846 after three years of construction. It is built of Heidenheim Jurassic limestone (oolite). On the east side (gable), facing the city, are the Heidenheim coat of arms and a carillon, and on the roof is a small bell tower.

The building is named after the long-time mayor, Elmar Doch (Mayor from 1957 to 1969).

In 1972, it lost its function when the town hall moved to the new building.

St. Michael's Church and Parish House

Highlight • Religious Site

The Protestant St. Michael's Church dates back to an early 13th-century building – a chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas. The present church was built around 1460 and expanded in 1621 and 1767. The organ still has an old Baroque facade.

Next to St. Michael's Church stands the rectory, built in 1711, with its remarkable half-timbering.
