Immenhof Estate (Rothensande Estate)

Highlight • Historical Site

The Holstein estate near Malente in Schleswig-Holstein became famous through the popular Immenhof films.

Spacious stables, historic granaries, wide paddocks and a magnificent manor house characterize the baroque Rothensande estate in the middle of Holstein Switzerland. Coming from a long chestnut avenue, you enter the estate through the beautiful gatehouse. Behind it is a spacious farmyard, flanked on both sides by utility rooms. At the end of the courtyard stands the manor house, built in 1911, with a view of the Kellersee.

Changing owners have expanded the complex over the years and subjected it to other uses. In 1911, the current manor house, the cowshed and the gatehouse were built under the owner Franz Bleßmann. In November 1953, Hans Joachim Lutter became the owner of the farm and allowed ARCO-Film to film the popular Immenhof films. This is how the historic Rothens estate became

Eutin Castle Garden

Highlight • Natural Monument

A historic park in the style of an English landscape garden, bordering Eutin Castle.

The garden's earliest origins date back to around 1500. From 1716 onward, a luxurious French Baroque garden was created, in keeping with the spirit of the times. However, just 60 years later, work began on its fundamental redesign and expansion into what was then a fashionable English landscape garden, featuring numerous special trees from all over the world, winding paths, small temples, a waterfall, a Chinese bridge, and romantic views of the lake. It has remained almost unchanged to this day, except that the trees have since grown into magnificent giants. The Ducal Garden has been open to the public for almost 200 years. Also located within the garden is a separate kitchen garden with an orangery, a New Zealand House, a display kitchen, and various beautifully maintained plantings (medicinal herbs, heirloom varieties, vines, kettle trees). The garden is now a listed monument as one of Northern Germany's most important works of garden art. It was extensively renovated in 2015. Learn about the philosophy behind this many-hectare, listed gem, its botanical features, what a kitchen garden is all about, and much more on a guided tour offered by the Eutin Tourist Information Center. Numerous educational programs for children also take place here.

Eutin Market Square

Highlight • Settlement

Eutin's market square has a rich history. Eutin was declared a market town in 1156 and was redesigned accordingly the following year. Then as now, its central location at the heart of the town served as a meeting place for trade and mutual exchange. Since Eutin was spared bombing raids during World War II, the market square is still surrounded by numerous medieval buildings and historic structures. These include the brick St. Michael's Church, completed between 1210 and 1230, the Widow's Palace, the town hall with its neoclassical façade, and the former court pharmacy. The weekly market takes place here every Wednesday and Saturday, offering regional and organic products.

Fissau Bay, Lake Keller

Highlight • Lake

Nice to drive, but sometimes with small hills, but here in the Holstein Switzerland are normal. Fissau already belongs to Eutin and is a suburb, so to speak. If you drive through Fissau you will soon be at the Great Eutin Lake. The Mönchsweg continues here on the southeastern shore.

Dieksee Promenade

Highlight • Trail

The Dieksee promenade takes you from the Malente Wildlife Park to the Diekseeholm forest.

The Dieksee promenade runs along the western shore of the 368-hectare Dieksee lake. Here you will find many of Malente's hotels, guesthouses, and health clinics.
Redesigned in 2007, the promenade consists partly of paved stone slabs and partly of hard-packed sand. During the construction work, a floating pontoon for events was installed near the pier for the 5-Lakes Cruise and Kellersee Cruise. An additional wooden walkway was also added to the promenade. Terraced platforms have been integrated along the embankment, offering a particularly beautiful view of the Dieksee.
