Schwaigern Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle in Schwaigern in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg was built from 1702 by the Lords of Neipperg in place of an earlier manor house and expanded to its present size after 1850.
The palace, located next to the town church on the northeastern edge of the historic center of Schwaigern, was built in the Baroque style for Field Marshal Eberhard Friedrich von Neipperg (1655-1725) from 1702 in place of the earlier Schwaigern Castle, which was destroyed in 1690. The castle was expanded and rebuilt in various ways, with the plans for the expansion being drawn up by Gottlob Georg Barth as early as 1835, but not being implemented until 1847 to 1871. The west wing was built in 1850, the south wing in 1866. The palace church, built in the neo-renaissance style, was built from 1860 to 1871 with the help of Christian Friedrich von Leins. [1] In 1898 the palace was rebuilt under Count Reinhard von Neipperg (1856-1919). In 1984 the roof structure was extensively renovated.

Water Buffalo in the Leintal

Highlight • Natural

At this point there is a pasture for a herd of water buffalo. It is interesting when they take a bath and wallow in the dirty water.

Here you can find a so-called Chartaque (watchtower). The reconstruction was part of the Eppinger Linien, a fortified defense line that stretched from Weißenstein near Pforzheim via Mühlacker, Sternenfels, Eppingen to Neckargemünd. It had a total length of 86 kilometers. The defense line was built between 1695 and 1697 under Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden, also known as "Türkenlouis", through forced labor, to prevent French raids during the War of the Palatinate Succession (1688–1697).
Reconstructed Chartaquen (watchtowers) are located at the following sites: near Niefern-Öschelbronn, near Schönenberg on the Sauberg, and the ones near Eppingen. All are a beautiful destination for bike tours.

Eppingen has a beautiful old town and the market square with town hall and various cafes is great for resting.
An ice cream parlor and Café Müller are right on the market square (see cappuccino and cake). We recommend!
There's always freshly baked cakes and delicious cakes here!

Gemmingen Castle Park

Highlight • Monument

In the heart of Gemmingen, between the castle courtyard and Wiesenstrasse, is the old stately castle park, which was acquired and renovated by the municipality of Gemmingen in the 1980s. The idea behind it was English gardening.

The center of the site today is the castle park pond, which is fed by its own spring, the Murrbach, and mainly by an old pipe from the Losterbach spring.

Adjacent to the northern bank is an octagonal wooden pavilion.

There are various events, concerts, children's performances and also an open-air cinema. Every two years, the park festival takes place across the entire area, organized by Gemmingen and Stebbach clubs.

Not far from the pavilion, on the edge of the path, you will come across a bronze group, the Gänseliesel. It was donated by a Gemmingen citizen.

There is also an old war memorial in a clearing in the trees.

The castle park is now the green heart of the municipality and is an integral part of community life. (Source: Heilbronnerland.de)
