Since construction began in autumn 2000, the Donauwörth Water Management Authority has completely completed the first section. The Wertach was widened significantly between the Inningen barrage and the Ackermann weir. Now the river not only has more space, new habitats have also been created for the inhabitants of the floodplain that have become rare. One of these habitats are the gravel banks. Above all, specialists grow here who can tolerate heat and drought as well as occasional flooding.
