The pictorial representations inside are a copy of the world-famous paintings in the Reichenau St. George Church from the 10th century. The paintings in the Reichenau Church were left damaged after they were discovered and uncovered (1879-1881) and were not restored. The idea was to have copies of the damaged paintings reproduced in a new church. As luck would have it, a new church was being built in Rittersbach at that time (1886). The paintings to be copied from the Reichenau Church of St. George were to decorate the interior of the Church of St. George in Rittersbach. The copies were completed in Rittersbach from 1887 to 1888.
