The area around the Dohnwald has been supplying water for the city of Herzogenaurach since 1933. The first water was taken from the oak fountain and brought to the city via a water pipe. After 1945, wells I to IV were drilled near the waterworks. Because no protection zones can be designated around the wells because they are too close to the construction areas, they may not be used for the drinking water supply. Well III, however, still supplies the swimming pools of the Atlantis leisure pool. In 1950, wells V, X, XI and XII were drilled in Dohnwald, which still supply drinking water for Herzogenaurach today.
