Gumbertus Chapel (Mainstockheim)

Highlight • Historical Site

The Gumbertus Chapel in Mainstockheim, a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen (Bavaria), was built in the 15th century. The former chapel at Gumbertusgasse 9 is a protected architectural monument.
The first settlement center in Mainstockheim arose around the chapel known as “Gumbertla”. The village center consisted of a fortified estate and the Gumbertus Chapel, which is said to have been built in 1059 by Ansbach monks. The Gumbertla bears the name of Saint Gumbert, a bishop of Würzburg.

The core of the two-story gable roof building with a baroque roof turret was built in the 15th century. In 1817 the Gumbertus Chapel was sold and then converted into a residential building.
