Church of Wustrow

Highlight • Religious Site

The Fischland church was consecrated on September 14, 1873. Between 1166 and 1190, the first wooden church was built on this site, and in 1385, the Ribnitz Clarissan monastery reportedly built a church on this site. This church was demolished in 1869 and the current church was built.

Long before Christianity came to Mecklenburg, this place was a holy place; the Wendish god Swantewit was worshipped and worshipped here. Legend has it that Swantewit's white horse raised the church hill with its hooves in one night. Excavations have shown that this hill was artificially raised on the flat island land. The hill served as a churchyard until 1830, after which a cemetery was built on the northern edge of the village.

Fischländer Harbour, Wustrow

Highlight • Rest Area

The Fischland harbor in the Baltic Sea resort of Wustrow is an idyllic Bodden harbor and an ideal starting point for tours on the Bodden, which can be undertaken either with a passenger ship or with Zeesen boats - the traditional fishing boats of the Bodden waters.

The Fischland harbor is located on the west bank of the Saaler Bodden. It has been converted into a rest area for water hikers. There is also a sailing school, a fish smokehouse, a pottery and painting studio, a fish restaurant, a children's playground and a boat rental service. The Fischland harbor offers a beautiful natural backdrop for maritime events such as harbor concerts, regattas and harbor festivals. In the season, it is possible to take a trip to the Bülten with the passenger ship or to use the daily ferry service via Dierhagen to the amber town of Ribnitz-Damgarten. Zees boat trips can also be undertaken from May to October.

Wustrow Lifeboat Station

Highlight • Monument

The Wustrow rescue station has existed since 1847 and is one of the oldest on the German Baltic Sea. It is located at the narrowest point of the Fischland peninsula. From there, the 18 voluntary sea rescuers headed by foreman Christian Levien go on assignments on the Baltic Sea and on the Saaler Bodden with the sea rescue boat BARSCH.
