Along the coast and not so far away from the shot, this wonderful paved path is advertised as a cycle path. I would only recommend this because it is difficult to drive in the sand.

Kirchdorf Marina

Highlight • Rest Area

Kirchdorf is a municipality in the Baltic Sea resort of Poel Island. With 1,016 inhabitants (as of 2016), the harbor town is the largest town on Poel.

Kirchdorf is located about eleven kilometers north of Wismar on the northern shore of Lake Kirchsee, a Baltic Sea bay that extends deep into the island of Poel.

History

The former fortress was built around 1620 according to plans by Ghert Evert Piloot. It featured a castle and a village church, and was surrounded by outbuildings. The complex was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War and largely fell into disrepair by the 17th century. The buildings were documented by excavations in the 19th century and 1934. Some earthworks and ditches have been preserved.

Sights

The village church, located in the south of the village and built in the second half of the 13th century, is a historically significant landmark. For centuries, the 47-meter-high tower served as a landmark for ships entering the Bay of Wismar. The church is still partially surrounded by the remains of the ramparts of the former Poel Fortress, which, together with Walfisch Island, dominated and secured the Bay of Wismar and the harbor entrance to Wismar.

There is an island museum in Kirchdorf.

The island of Poel is located around 10 km north of Wismar in the Wismar Bay in the Baltic Sea. From the south, a bay cuts deep into the island, at the northern end of which lies the island's largest village, Kirchdorf. Almost half of the approximately 2,500 inhabitants of Poel live there.

Quite strange landscape, you just have to see it. In the distance, the industrial plants of Wismar, on site free-standing horses, behind them 20 white swans, lots of sea birds, great lighting conditions.
