View of the Okertalsperre from the ascent to Schulenberg

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Up to Schulenberg (from the Okertalsperre) it degenerates into work with a gradient of 7-8%. But the view is worth the effort!

Kalbetal climb to Torfhaus

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Free from traffic and a scenically attractive environment, for me the most beautiful route up to Torfhaus. Just over half of the route has gradients of 7 to 9%, with …

Although you are not yet at the top, you have a beautiful view of the valley from here. Unfortunately, many trees are broken.

Brockenbahn Steam Railway

Highlight • Structure

A ride on the Brockenbahn is a special experience. If you hike up the Brocken, you can hear her panting when she drives up or down the path.

Brocken Summit

Highlight • Summit

The highest peak in the Harz above the tree line. Certainly not the most exciting climb on a mountain bike, but still a must, simply because it's there. ;-)

Ascent to the Brocken from Elend

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

A 14-kilometer climb up the Brocken from Elend. The first section is quite challenging. Near Schierke, there's even a short downhill section. The final kilometer to the summit is a bit strenuous. Be careful of other cyclists and hikers.

Exactly what the Harz Hochstraße, for example, is unfortunately far too rare for: narrow, narrow, curvy. Absolutely recommended, especially downhill towards Altenau 😁

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

Wonderful connection from the Okerstausee to Clausthal-Zellerfeld. The asphalt in top quality, scenic and very easy to master with gradients of 1% to 3%.

July 25, 2021,Harztour mit Klaus...
Many routes traveled change permanently,
through the huge dead and cleared forest areas.
Anyone like me who has been cycling in the Harz for many years is shocked by the negative development the forest is experiencing.

One after the other:
-Kalbetal/Torfhaus from the Okertalsperre
-Wurmberg
-Brocken via Elend
-Sonnenberg
In between there were unfortunately busy district and federal roads due to the lack of cycle paths.
At the Brocken it was a matter of slalom driving around the hikers climbing the mountain in rows of four.
