... better only on weekdays or at the weekend before 10:00 in the morning, otherwise just too crowded, especially in good weather ...

Nidda Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

It is definitely not a ROAD highlight between the mouth of the Main and Bad Vilbel. It is too crowded, too narrow for the heavy traffic, the surface is often too poor (passable, but quickly dirty bike) and the low bridges force taller bikers to be extremely careful. As a racing cyclist, you can't go really fast, but there are also no real challenges. If you are more touristy / relaxed, you have very varied urban backdrops, parks and fields as well as one or the other refreshment stop.

Nidda Old Weir (1920) - Frankfurt/Höchst 🚴‍♂️

The old weir from 1920, used to regulate the Nidda, no longer has a crossing and has since been demolished except for one tower.
As part of the Nidda River restoration and the dismantling of the old Nidda weir, rapids and calm areas have emerged in this section of the river. Fish can now ascend from the Main into the Nidda because the weir is no longer there. Fish can spawn in gravel banks, and various perennials and shrubs grow along the banks without having been specifically planted. The work also includes a newly built pedestrian bridge and 600 meters of redesigned riverside path. 🚴‍♂️

Nidda River Rapids

Highlight • River

An idyllic white water in the middle of Frankfurt... it's crazy 👍
Just 10 years ago it was absolutely unthinkable... when the Nidda was still a dead, life-threatening canal!
After the renaturation, it is now a very interesting, ecologically diverse body of water in this area 🤩

Beautiful piece of landscape here at the Wörthspitze, where the Nidda flows into the Main.
Here you have beautiful views over to the Höchst Main bank with the Bolongaro Palace.

Höchster Mainufer Promenade - Frankfurt/Höchst 🚴‍♂️

The Höchster Mainufer Promenade begins at the Wörthspitze, where the Nidda River flows into the Main. It continues along the Seilerbahn (rope walk) and passes the Bolongaro Garden to the north, with its castle tower and Justinus Church. It then runs along Batterie Street and ends past the old coal crane at the Leuna Bridge.🚴‍♂️

The Mainufer with its promenade, the green areas and its distinctive bridges is one of the big attractions of the city. Overlooking the impressive skyline, the residents of Frankfurt and their guests can walk for miles along the shore, go jogging or cycling. From here also the excursion boats start along the Main. Art lovers will also appreciate the numerous museums along the banks of the River Main, which is one of Europe's most important museum locations.

The banks of the Main between the western and eastern harbors are Frankfurt's longest sunbathing area. When the weather is nice, you can hardly see the lawn for the crowds. There are particularly great skyline views from the south bank. Main café and kebab boat on the Untermain Bridge, Gang and Gäbe, Oosten and two cocktail bars near the ECB offer refreshments.

Frankfurt is the city with the highest cultural budget in Germany. This is mainly due to the numerous top-class museums. Many of them are lined up along the Museumsufer in the middle of the city.
