Delftor Bridge, Itzehoe

The Delftor Bridge carries cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists safely and comfortably across the Stör. From the bridge, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Stör.

Until it was filled with approximately 110,000 m³ of sand in 1974, the Stör Loop played a key role in shaping Itzehoe's city center. The loop was the original course of the river.

The Stör Crossing (Low German "Delf," from which the names "Delftor" and "Delftorbrücke"
of the town exit and the Stör Bridge come) turned Itzehoe's castle complex
into an island. There are said to have been locks in the Delf that closed when the water receded, thus forcing a flow through and cleaning the Stör Loop.
