The landscape protection area serves as a natural retention area for flood protection. For this purpose, the canalized Röhr and Sorpe were unleashed from 2014 to 2015, with the course of the Sorpe lengthening from 660 meters to around 1,400 meters and the tube section from around 950 meters to around 1,300 meters. The now strongly twisted, much flatter and wider river beds can spread faster into the adjoining floodplain during floods.

In the summer of 2018, more than 4000 meters of fences were installed, so that from now on extensive year-round grazing with Dexter cattle could take place over three areas.

As an additional project, 45 linden trees, twelve oaks and 15 fruit trees - as an avenue and meadow orchards - were then planted.
