St. Nikolaus Church Löberschütz

Highlight • Religious Site

St. Nicholas Church in Löberschütz was founded in 1456 by Hermann von Baldestedt. Located on the northern edge of the village, it is a choir tower church originally from the Gothic period, with alterations and additions, most of which took place around 1687 (inscription on the south side of the choir). The squat building, typical of the valley of the railway tracks, is dominated by the rectangular choir tower with its distinctive hipped roof. Two Baroque memorial plaques are integrated into the south side (among other things, the reconstruction is mentioned). On the north side is a special gravestone commemorating the teacher Friedrich Anton Liebeskind. He worked in Löberschütz from 1851 until his death in 1864. His descendants established the "Liebeskind Foundation" for the benefit of the Löberschütz church and cemetery.

The south portal with the inscription “Peace be with you”, the eastern choir window with suggested tracery and the gate to the churchyard were built in 1888/89.
