The parish church in Elbersroth was built in 1925 according to the plans of the architect Schulz from Nuremberg and thus received its current appearance. As early as the early 1900s, Pastor Ludwig Heumann asked for donations for the construction of a new church in his petitions, repeatedly pointing out the poor condition of the church. The tower had to be removed around 1910 and the bells hung on a wooden frame in what was then the cemetery. He also complained "that the church is too small and the poor parish is not able to fulfill a building obligation". It is not known how much money Heumann was able to collect for the building of the church. The First World War, however, threw a spanner in the works. His death shortly before the end of the war at the age of only 49 "put an abrupt end to his restless spirit", according to a newspaper article at the time. However, one was very surprised that in 1925 the construction of the parish church of St. James the Elder could begin. Heumann's successor and nephew, Spiritual Counselor Andreas Lederer, found an architect in Professor Schulz who was to carry out Heumann's testament with artistic understanding. However, Schulz had developed a concept that, with an onion dome, was far removed from the draft by the architect Karl Jäger from Munich, commissioned by Pastor Heumann. The construction costs had amounted to 70,000 marks, most of which were raised from the Pfarrer Heumann Foundation.

The village square in Elbersroth was redesigned in 2006 in around 2000 volunteer hours by Elbersroth citizens under the leadership of Hermann Abel and with great financial support from the city of Herrieden. In the center of the square is an octagonal fountain basin with the bronze figure of the "herb priest" Ludwig Heumann. With this, the local citizens have erected a memorial to the unforgettable clergyman. The figure was modeled by the Ansbach artist Luise Kressel-Ofxky and is designed to show the "herb priest" washing the harvested plants. The water as the elixir of life flows from a vessel over the herbs into a cauldron. In the octagonal pool, four small fountains provide interesting water features. At the fountain, seven plaques with the following text refer to Heumann's legacy:

“HE CREATED MEDICINES FROM LOCAL HERBS AND DEVELOPED NEW HEALING METHODS. HE MANUFACTURED HIS FIRST REMEDIES FOR MAN AND ANIMALS IN HIS LAUNDRY ROOM. HE IMPROVED ANIMAL HOLDINGS AGRICULTURE AND MARKETING WITH ADVICE AND ACT. HE WAS ALSO A CLERK FOR SOUL AND BODY BY FOUNDING AND WORKING IN ASSOCIATIONS. HIS WRITING ACTIVITIES DEALED WITH SPIRITUAL AND PRACTICAL ISSUES. HE SENT REMEDIES AND HEALING BOOKS TO CHINA. HEUMANN ARZNEIMITTEL IS STILL AVAILABLE TODAY.”

On Whit Monday 2007, Bishop Gregor Maria Hanke of Eichstätt, a native of Elbersroth, consecrated the new village square with great interest from the population. The village association "Elbersroth Rundum", founded in September 2021, has set itself the task of maintaining the village square area and "filling it with life" through events. In 2022, the facility was expanded with the construction of a bread baking house.

Possible combinations:
from the village square in Elbersroth (station 1) to the “Sonnengesang” meditation path in Windshofen (Gde. Aurach), distance to the starting point (Chapel Mater dolorosa in Windshofen with car park): 3.6 km, approx. 45 minutes, walking time on the meditation path: approx. 1.5 hours, 6.5 km
