Großer Knollen lookout tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

The highest mountain in the southern Harz is 687.4 meters high and the view from here is great and makes up for the climb. If you still want to crack the 700-meter mark, you can climb the 20-meter-high observation tower, the Knollenturm, for a fee and improve the view a bit. There is a good place to stop for refreshments right on the summit.

Bärental Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Bärental Trail begins shortly after the Großer Knollen. It consists mainly of forest floor, gravel and some larger stones. There is a fork at the entrance. Take the hiking trail on the right ... it's MUCH more fun! The trail is very flowing and initially characterized by small climbs. Then you really pick up speed and can really shred down. After about halfway there is a short narrow passage, so please do not fall into the abyss! ;) After about 3/4 of the way you are VERY fast on the way, you will find a large tree trunk in the middle of the way that can be bypassed. But please be careful, I almost rushed into it. Great trail, is usually very fast, is a lot of fun, but always to be enjoyed with caution! ;)

This cave is an absolute must for young and old. The tenants of the cave go to a lot of trouble with the tours and the hospitality. I have seldom experienced such a small, interesting tour of a cave. Really great!

July 24, 2022,Großer Knollen & Bismarck-Turm - HarzKlub-Tour 12
Finally a nice tour in the northernmost low mountain range!
With the Harz Club we went to the southern Harz. Here the world is still in order, at least as far as the tree population is concerned: dense deciduous forests provide shade in the summer heat.

Sascha:
A beautiful flow trail tour, organized and guided by the Goslar Harz Club.
The group worked well together, EMTB and MTBler together. Unfortunately, a small planning error crept in,
the uphill trail to the Bismarkturm is not recommended!
Great day, lots of laughs and fun

Very cool autumnal atmosphere, fitting for the Harz region, with the fog and the colorful leaves.

Now it was finally time for us to visit the South Harz Mountains, which we had so criminally neglected!
In the morning, we brushed up on our skills on the MSB X-Trail, and by midday we were on our way to Knollen, over seemingly endless flow trails toward Kummelberg and back into the enchanting Scharzfeld Dolomites.

Nice route with balanced paths and lots of trails.
More strenuous at the beginning up the Knollen, many other nice paths that you could take.
