Erlabrunn Lock and Weir

The Erlabrunn barrage is a lock with a weir system in the Main at the level of Erlabrunn.

Although the lock and the control building are in the Thüngersheim district, this name is given due to the associated power plant in the Erlabrunn district.

The lock has a lifting height of 4.15 meters. The lock chamber is 299.20 meters long and 12 meters wide. Miter gates are used as lock gates. The facility was built and put into operation in 1935. The lock process and the ship's signaling system are monitored remotely by the lock keeper at the Würzburg barrage.

In total, the water falls over three rollers, each 30 meters wide: a three-belt gate with a flap and two normal rollers. On the Erlabrunn side there is a power plant that has an output of 2.90 megawatts and belongs to the operator E.ON Bayern. A walkway leads over the bridge, which can only be reached by stairs. The floor is formed by a metal grille through which you can look directly at the weir. It is the only crossing of the Main near Erlabrunn. The bridge formerly also connected Erlabrunn and the Erlabrunn train station on the other side of the Main.
