Marienkapelle and Way of the Cross

In July 2009, the municipality of Breitbrunn announced a competition for a Stations of the Cross path, which was intended to create a connection to the surrounding quarries, where many Breitbrunn residents have worked in long tradition. The jury ultimately opted for the sculptor Steffi Bauer from Schweinfurt. Figures and scenes of the Stations of the Cross were worked out of rough-hewn boulders from these quarries. Thus, the stations enter into a natural symbiosis with the charming Lower Franconian landscape. The Marienkapelle forms the solemn conclusion of the approximately one-kilometer-long Breitbrunn Stations of the Cross. This contemplative path is designed as a modern "open-air museum" and was inaugurated in 2011.
