Beavertail Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Beavertail Lighthouse was built in 1856 and guards the entrance to Narragansett Bay. It is 64 feet tall and is one of a few lighthouses in the area, such as Castle Hill Lighthouse, Point Judith Lighthouse, and Rose Island Lighthouse. There is a museum on site that visitors can check out.

Mackerel Cove Beach

Mackerel Cove Beach, also known as Sandy Mackerel Cove, also known as Jamestown Town Beach, is a great spot for families. It is sheltered from strong currents and is open from early June to early September. The beach area has Beaver Tail Road running parallel and Mackerel Cove on one side and Sheffield Cove on the other side.

Fort Wetherill State Park

Highlight • Historical Site

Fort Wetherill State Park has nice views of Newport Harbor and the East Passage of Narragansett Bay. Visitors can walk up to granite cliffs and look down into the clear water. There is an abandoned fort over 100 years old (Fort Wetherill) and beautiful natural views around it. The restrooms here are open from May 1st to October 31st.
