Eltz Castle

Highlight • Castle

Castle Eltz towers like a fairytale castle on a 129 meter high hill in the valley of Elz, a small tributary of the Moselle, which flows around the castle from three sides. The castle had been "lucky" in the course of its history: it could never be conquered by force and was already tended by the owner in the 19th century, cared for and restored for a lot of money, so that today it still stands really well. By the way, for more than 800 years she has been in the possession of the family von and to Eltz-Kempenich, who is committed to ensuring that the castle is maintained and made accessible to the public in the future. In the summer months you can visit the castle. However, you can not drive up to the castle - the steep, small way there you prefer to attack on foot.

Forest Path to Eltz Castle

Highlight • Trail

A hiking trail that often does not allow any distant views and only a sparse view of the valley in leafy months. The path leads to Eltz Castle and is therefore frequented by tourists.

Super comfortable (but today incredibly hot) short walk to the extraordinary Eltz Castle.
Then a short detour to the stream directly below the castle.
If it's cooler, you can of course also take a more distant parking lot and hike a little further through the valley.

Today I had the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream. Burg Eltz is one of the most famous and beautiful castles in Germany. An old legend surrounds it:

The Legend of Agnes von Eltz

Many centuries ago, a powerful knight wanted to conquer Burg Eltz. But the men of the castle had gone away, and only women, children, and the …

Very nice there, but to enter the castle you have to pay an entrance fee, and unfortunately you don't get to see the whole castle because part of it is inhabited! What a pity.

"Eltz Castle, which is more than 850 years old, stands on a steep rocky outcrop in the middle of a narrow side valley of the Moselle, surrounded by a particularly attractive, original landscape.
Surrounded by Elzbach, which gave its name to one of the oldest noble families in Germany, Bitg Eltz has been the ancestral seat of the counts and …

As a tip, if you also want to see Eltz Castle, go there as early as possible, otherwise it's just too crowded.
But otherwise super nice

Eltz Castle has been on my list of places to visit for a long time. Today marked the start of the New Year's Eve weekend on the Moselle. Did a little walk around the castle.
