View of Science World

Highlight • Monument

Science World (officially called TELUS World of Science Vancouver since 2005) is a science center-style museum featuring permanent and rotating interactive exhibits.

The museum is housed in a geodesic dome designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller at the eastern end of False Creek. The dome was one of the main attractions of Expo 86 and was subsequently renovated for CAD 19.1 million. The museum opened in 1988, and a year later, an omnimax theater was added in the dome's upper section.

On July 20, 2005, the museum adopted its current name after the Canadian telecommunications company Telus donated CAD 9 million and acquired the naming rights. The new name has been met with public disapproval. The old name is far more familiar, and the nearby SkyTrain station also retains its name, Main Street-Science World.

Fisherman's Wharf

Highlight • Viewpoint

Fisherman’s Wharf is a small working harbour filled with fishing boats, floating homes, and plenty of seafood outlets. Here, you can watch vessels unload their catch and purchase fresh seafood right from the dock, and enjoy views of downtown across the water. It’s a great place to catch a glimpse of Vancouver’s remaining commercial fishing activity in the heart of the city.
